5 Men Stabbed in Fight Over Phone

Five young men were stabbed near Linda Lane Park during a fight that erupted Friday night over the use of a pay phone, police said Sunday.

Officers patrolling the area near the city pier Friday at 11:20 p.m. broke up a brawl in which the five youths were stabbed, said dispatcher Denise Garcia. Their injuries ranged from minor lacerations to a serious chest wound, she said.

Four of the injured were taken to Mission Regional Hospital Medical Center in Mission Viejo. Two of them were later released. A 16-year-old was admitted to intensive care. The fourth person admitted is still in the hospital in good condition.

Police identified the adults injured in the melee as Heriberto Alejo, 18, of Capistrano Beach and John Nguyen, 19, of Laguna Niguel.

The others were not identified because of their age.

There were no arrests, and the investigation was continuing.
