A Guide to the DODGERS

Share

Entering their 36th season in Los Angeles and 32nd at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers will be hoping to rise as quickly as the fell. They came within a game of winning the National League West in 1991, then dropped to the cellar in 1992, their first last-place finish since 1905. Manager Tommy Lasorda, the dean of active major league managers, returns for his 17th season. *Dodgers Starting team

They have added the equivalent of five new faces to the lineup. Three are newcomers--rookie catcher Mike Piazza and second baseman Jody Reed and third baseman Tim Wallach, both free-agent acquisitions. The others are outfielders Eric Davis and Darryl Strawberry, the heart of the batting order whose 1992 seasons were decimated by injury.
