Catch of Big Bass Puts San Diego Back on Map
The San Diego city lakes, popular for bass but upstaged for big ones by Lakes Castaic and Casitas recently, rebounded when George McKenney of San Diego took a 16-pound 12-ounce largemouth from Miramar.
It was believed to be the second largest in the state this year, behind an 18-3 by Steve Gray of Ventura at Casitas. But it isn’t close to Miramar’s record of 21-15, which is only 5 ounces shy of the 61-year-old world record.
Meanwhile, the ice is off Big Bear Lake and spring fishing has started with catches of large rainbow trout, although the weather remains unreliable.
