De La Hoya Frustrated but Wins by Decision
Olympic gold medalist Oscar De La Hoya, forced to go the distance for the first time as a pro, scored a unanimous decision over Mike Grable on Tuesday night in an eight-round lightweight bout.
Grable was knocked down twice and took a standing eight count during the seventh round, then survived a furious attack by De La Hoya during the eighth and final round.
De La Hoya, of East Los Angeles, scored his sixth victory in six fights since turning pro following the Barcelona Olympics. Grable, of Clarkston, Mich., is 13-2-2.
“It was getting to me when I was not able to drop him in the first rounds,” De La Hoya said.
