A Missed Lesson in Responsibility
I finally got it! We have all been wondering what has happened to our society, and the story, “Second-Graders Face Possible Expulsion” (April 2), answered the question.
The article describes a second-grader (7 years old) who brought a pocketknife to Killybrooke Elementary School in Costa Mesa and, along with a friend, slit a teacher’s tire. The principal, Mr. Ned Hall, stated, “It is really a small incident. . . .” Mr. Hall, you are the one who should be expelled. Your blase attitude about an incident that could have been deadly is unforgivable.
If our schools are being run by people who apparently don’t know the first thing about teaching children to be responsible, it’s no wonder we are in big trouble.
I will cheerfully continue to pay the private school tuition for my 8-year-old. In public school, you could be killed by “a small incident.”
