The San Diego Gulls of the International Hockey League set a record with their 61st victory, 5-1, over the Salt Lake Golden Eagles. The Gulls (61-11-8) became the first team in professional hockey to win that many games in a season. The 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens won 60 games.
