HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Crespi Wins on Combined 1-Hitter

Keith Evans and Jeff Suppan combined on a one-hitter to lead Crespi High to a 1-0 victory over St. John Bosco on Saturday in the second round of St. Paul tournament pool play.

Evans allowed one hit in five innings and struck out four to earn the win. Jeff Suppan pitched two innings of hitless relief to notch a save.

Crespi scored in the third when three walks were followed by a single by Javier Avila that scored Darren McInerney.

In other baseball games:

Notre Dame 17, La Mirada 9--Dave Supple had three hits, including his second home run this season, and drove in two runs for visiting Notre Dame, which pounded out 18 hits in the second round of pool play in the St. Paul tournament.

Cesar Martinez added three hits and Joey Orlando and Ryan Vos each had two hits for Notre Dame (11-2). John Betts (1-0) posted his first win, allowing nine hits and six earned runs in six innings.

Bosco Tech 3, Chaminade 0--Adam Crecion and Mike Haugh combined to throw a two-hitter for Chaminade in the second round of St. Paul tournament pool play, but the Eagles (5-9) gave up two runs in the sixth on a hit, two walks and an error.

Hart 4, Rio Mesa 3--Alan Ray had a double and two runs batted in and Aaron Dean also drove in two runs for the Indians (12-4) in a nonleague game. Luis Sanchez struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings to earn the victory. Gary Stephenson retired the only batter he faced to pick up the save.

Kennedy 11, East (Utah) 4--Jeff Tagliaferri slugged his third home run of the Las Vegas Gael tournament and seventh of the season, and Jeff Hall and David Bourne each added homers for Kennedy (13-2) in the final round of pool play.

Bourne finished with three hits, three RBIs and two runs. Hall had two hits and four RBIs, and John Toven added two hits. Gilbert Echeverria (1-0) made his first start, allowing four hits and two earned runs in five innings.

Hueneme 7-1, Arroyo Grande 5-9--In the first game, Jess Oliveras and Juan Ponce (two doubles, three RBIs) each went three for four for Hueneme. Robert Ralston (two RBIs) and Kris Gundrum each added two hits.

The Vikings (6-7) committed eight errors in the second game.

SOFTBALL

Hart 1, Quartz Hill 0--Lauren Fenstemaker (4-3) pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven and allowing only one runner to second base. Hart’s Amanda Deutschman singled home Erica Christensen in the first inning.

Oakwood 18, Avalon 0--Susie Vatz pitched a shutout and Susie Seidman and Jennifer Rogen hit home runs for Oakwood (8-1, 2-0) in a Liberty League game.
