Manon Rheaume’s first starting appearance in goal for the Atlanta Knights was impressive enough for her coach to say she has a chance to be a backup goalie for another minor league team next season. Rheaume, the first female to play professional hockey, stopped 25 shots and gave up six goals against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday night.

After the game, her coach, Gene Ubriaco, said Rheaume performed well enough to compete for the No. 2 goalie spot with the Louisville IceHawks of the East Coast Hockey League next season.

The Knights and the IceHawks are minor league clubs of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
