COMPTON : Ex-Police Chief Faces Charge of Grand Theft

Share

Former Compton Police Chief Terry Ebert was charged with a single count of grand theft Tuesday, one year after he was forced to go on administrative leave on the first day of last spring’s riots.

Ebert is suspected of taking $5,000 from Police Department accounts for his personal use, according to a felony complaint filed by Deputy Dist. Atty. Terry White.

Suspicion arose last year after Ebert requested additional funds for the drug-buying account midway through the city’s fiscal year. A routine audit revealed that money was missing, but city officials have kept the audit’s results under tight wraps. Ebert was granted stress disability leave after more than two months on administrative leave. He retired from the force in August.
