Jews’ Objections to School’s Spring Rites

It was with great interest that I read the article discussing Jewish parents’ objections to symbols of spring at a Culver City school. I knew at once it had to be El Rincon.
I lived in that area over 40 years ago, when El Rincon was just a wooden shack, and even with just a wooden shack, they had the Nativity scene in full size on the playground. When my children started to attend the school, they had only Christmas decorations in their display windows. I being Jewish, and representing a very small minority at that time, voiced my objections. After much going back and forth for a long period of time, they permitted me about one-eighth of the window display for a Hanukkah decor.
This school has been famous or infamous for discrimination and has not improved with age in the 40 years that I am aware of. Shame on them.
