BURBANK : 350 Tapes Seized From Video Store

Share

Burbank police arrested a video store owner and seized about 350 illegally copied videotapes after customers complained that the cassettes he rented were blurry, authorities said Friday.

Chieng Tao, 38, turned himself in to police last week after officers confronted him at Video House at 401 S. Glen Oaks Blvd. with several allegedly pirated tapes, Police Sgt. Robert Brode said.

Burbank detectives were contacted Feb. 8 by Motion Picture Assn. of America agents, a small group of investigators who look into video piracy, Brode said. Customers had complained to the association about the poor quality of tapes rented at Video House, he said.

Undercover detectives visited the store in February and March and rented 10 tapes, all of which were illegally duplicated, Brode said.

Tao, of Alhambra, was arrested on suspicion of failure to disclose the origin of a sound recording, Brode said.
