VIEWPOINT / LETTERS : At Last, Something Strawberry Catches: Heat From the Fans

Darryl Strawberry lost more than just that home run ball on Tuesday. He lost all integrity and respect that myself and other die-hard baseball fans once had for him.

Crying about a middle-aged fan who makes a legitimate catch while sitting in the stands is pure sour grapes! If Darryl had ever proved that he could make that play, then I would support throwing the bum out. Instead, they should give the fan a season pass so he can give Darryl fielding tips during infield practice.

As far as Mike Downey’s article on Tuesday, one of the biggest “losers” in the stadium that day was out in right field. If they announce instructions to the fans in both English and Spanish regarding balls that may be in play, then maybe Darryl can’t hear them, because they are drowned out by the sound of boos.
