Her Master’s Voice

Regarding “Now the Real Snow White Is Really Steamed” (Film Clips, April 4):

The enduring popularity of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” over the years has confirmed Time magazine’s 1937 description of the picture as an “authentic masterpiece.” And so, I was appalled to learn of Disney Co.’s cavalier treatment of Adriana Caselotti, whose bell-like voice as Snow White was an essential ingredient of the picture’s success. I was also amazed that she was paid a paltry $970 for the role.

One would have thought that from its vast wealth (and the enormous profits from “Snow White” alone), Disney would by now have made a gracious gesture of appreciation.

By the way, slick, synthetic efforts like “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast” are no real competition. Snow White is still the fairest of them all.
