Half of Jacob was a hodge podge of just about every Caucasian strain the European continent had to offer. That 1/2 was sort of like Wonder Bread-- you know, white but enriched. His other 1/2 was Japanese. The mixture resulted in a stew of Latina grandmothers all asking him for directions in Spanish. He just looked like a nice Latino boy. That’s where his Japanese cultural inheritance of guilt about anything kicked in. He usually ended up feeling guilty he didn’t speak the language of the culture they thought he was a part of.
