Delta Wants to Fly New London Route: Delta Air Lines asked for permission to fly between Salt Lake City and London as top U.S. and British regulators held their first meeting toward a new aviation treaty. U.S. carriers have been clamoring for greater access to London’s crowded airports since the U.S. government this year approved a British Airways investment in USAir. In Delta’s request to the Department of Transportation, the airline asked to move one of USAir’s Baltimore or Charlotte, N.C., routes to Salt Lake City, Delta’s third-largest hub airport. Delta asked to continue the would-be Salt Lake City route to Gatwick airport rather than the more popular Heathrow. As a result, Delta said its proposal needs only the approval of the U.S. government, not a treaty renegotiation.
