BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Greenberg Is Hired as Consultant

Share

Steve Greenberg, who recently stepped down as baseball’s deputy commissioner, has been hired by the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles as a consultant on financial matters. Greenberg’s primary role for those clubs will be to make a recommendation on enhanced revenue sharing among the 28 major league teams.

“At this point, it’s not a question of whether I’m opposing or not opposing anything,” Greenberg said of revenue sharing. “I’m just getting started. I do not consider what I’m doing as undermining what (the owners’ player relations committee) is doing (in collective bargaining.) If anything, I hope to enhance or contribute to that effort.”
