Sony’s New Home: Sony Music will open the doors to its new studios this spring--a complex the size of a city block on Manhattan’s West Side. The new studio is the home of the former “Fox Stages” on West 54th Street, where such classic movies as “On the Waterfront” and “Miracle on 34th Street” were filmed. The five floors of recording facilities have everything from a kitchen and lounge to a 270,000-cubic-foot sound stage and audio and video library. Sony Music President Tommy Mottola conceived of the complex as a place for Sony artists to rehearse, be nurtured and exchange ideas. “The facility exemplifies Sony’s Music’s commitment to New York City as the worldwide locus for the recording arts,” he said in a statement.
