Gehrig Would Never Have Taken This Hit

Share

I just watched Cal Ripken break out of a two-for-28 slump by hitting an RBI single that went all of 45 feet. It’s disturbing that this guy could eventually break Lou Gehrig’s consecutive-games record. Although I was born after Gehrig died, I am guessing that if a swinging bunt with the bases loaded was the highlight of Lou’s last 29 at-bats, he would have retired on the spot, figuring that old age had caught up with him.
