Wieder Is a Leader for All Interests

I was disappointed to read that a small group of activists have chosen to direct their energies toward a recall of Supervisor Harriett Wieder.

My observation is that Harriett has served Orange County extremely well and done so in the most unbiased, intelligent and balanced manner of any supervisor we have had. Though I may not agree with all of her decisions--although I usually do--I believe she makes those decisions based on factual information free from special-interest influence and on what she perceives is best for Orange County as a whole in the short-, but as important, long-term. Her voting record demonstrates strong support for small business, as well as the county’s future in a variety of arenas.

I suspect the underlying grievance is the fact that Harriett, along with millions of other Republicans, myself included, broke ranks with the party to support President Clinton. That in itself is proof positive that she votes her intelligence, what she believes is best for Orange County and the country, and her heart.

Perhaps this group could be encouraged to address larger issues and needs that face our county and use their time, talents, energies and money for positive causes.
