Thoughts on TIS

I was moved by Judy Fayard’s Traveling in Style article on the delights of Provence (“Provence in Dark and Light”)--delights that we have enjoyed several times over a period of more than three decades. However, I do not believe the beautiful view of tile-roofed Arles is from the ramparts. Those arches look remarkably like the top of Les Arenes, the ancient Roman amphitheater mentioned in the article. Usually we see a few tourists walking around the easily accessible top of this ancient wall.

The obvious lack of ugly barriers prompts prudent visitors to stay as far from edges as possible--a fact I first learned when I took my new bride there in 1958. We just celebrated our 35th anniversary today.
