2 Scenarios for El Toro Air Base

After reading (with great interest) “El Toro Base Closure Costs Raising Eyebrows” (April 16), I feel compelled to comment. At the risk of seeming naive, I wonder if any consideration has been given to the closing of Miramar Naval Air Station and consolidating the Navy’s activities there with the Marines’ of El Toro?

San Diego County is in desperate need of a suitable international airport. Lindbergh Field is a disaster area, an airport long overdue for a major catastrophe. North Island Naval Air Station could, perhaps, also be considered for consolidation with El Toro MCAS. It seems to me the needs of Orange County and San Diego County could be met by at least conducting a feasibility study on this proposal.

I realize there has been some discussion about a joint Tijuana-San Diego international airport, but I submit perhaps Miramar could serve as a reasonable, cost-effective substitute.
