Pianist Sally Honda, 17, and saxophonist Jason Green, 22, have tied for first place in the 1993 B. Douglas Sawtelle Music Scholarship competition sponsored by the Orange County Musicians’ Assn. Local No. 7 of the American Federation of Musicians. Each won $800. Honda is a senior at Mission Viejo High School. Green is a music student at UCLA.
Pianist Melody Lu, 17, a student at University High School, and harpist Tomoko Sato, 18, a student at Chapman University in Orange, tied for second place, each winning $400.
Violinist Tomoko O’Donnell, 26, who will enter UCLA in the fall, won $350. Albert Wu, an 18-year-old violinist who will attend UC Irvine in the Fall, won $250.
Saxophonist Nathan Jensen, a 20-year-old student at Cal State University Long Beach, won the $500 Mick Price Memorial Award for jazz.
The winners will give a free recital on May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Yamaha School of Music in Irvine. (714) 546-8166.
