From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Some California Fords Recalled a Second Time: Ford Motor Co. has recalled 17,900 cars for a second time, saying they may violate California emissions standards. The recall affects 1988 Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable and Lincoln Continental models equipped with 3.8-liter engines and built for sale in California, a Ford spokesman said. The cars had been recalled earlier because they failed to meet state emissions standards, said John P. King, manager of Ford’s parts and service engineering office. “It is possible that vehicles modified in the initial recall may (still) fail California emissions testing requirements,” he said.
