Hokapauloogie Sets Lineup for Alternative Rock Festival

It’s not exactly the Lollapalooza, but the idea of the Hokapauloogie Festival is roughly the same: Get an array of alternative-rock bands together in one place at one time and see what happens. In this case, Jeff Beals of the local band Bumpyhead plays the Perry Farrell guiding-spirit role.

Standing in for Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, et al., is a roster of Orange County talent. Hokapauloogie II (Beals started it last year) takes place May 7 at 8 p.m. at Caffe Nove, 3474 E. Orangethorpe Ave., Anaheim.

Performers, in order of appearance, are William Henry Rhodia, the Pivot Foots, Jeff Fairbanks, Bumpyhead, Mark Soden, Eli Riddle and the Swamp Zombies. Admission is free or $2, depending on your mood and capacity for guilt. (714) 996-2120.

VITAL MOVE: Having recently launched a series of free Monday night concerts to showcase itself and kindred alternative-rock bands, Eli Riddle is moving its “Club Vital Music” to a new location, Club 5902, 5902 Warner Ave., Huntington Beach. Appearing Monday at 9 p.m. are Eli Riddle, Perfect Sunday and the Grabbers.

RAMONA RASTA: The James M. Nederlander Companies, operators of the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, are booking pop concerts at a third Southland outdoor venue, the Ramona Bowl outside of Hemet in Riverside County. The first show at the 6,662-seat theater will be the Reggae Sunsplash ’93 World Tour on May 31, with Shinehead, Freddie McGregor, Marcia Griffiths and others. No other Ramona shows have been announced. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets. The bowl is at 27400 Ramona Bowl Road. The reggae bill also comes to the Pacific on June 12. Tickets go on sale Saturday.

HELP FOR HOMELESS: Four local rock bands will perform a “Noise for the Needy” concert Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Chapman University to raise money to feed and clothe homeless people. Primitive Painters, Atomic Boy, the Jim Lacey Baker Band and Smile will play at the university’s Hutton Sports Complex, Orange and Sycamore in Orange. The concert is sponsored by campus cable radio station KNAB and Chapman’s Associated Students. Proceeds will go to Mary McAnena, a 90-year-old woman who feeds the city’s homeless, for her projects.
