Valinda : Man Slain Outside Home
A 19-year-old man was fatally wounded in a shooting in front of his home near Valinda, authorities said Wednesday.
Johnny Lopez died at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina a short time after the attack at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of Mayland Avenue, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ron Weber said.
Lopez and his sister were standing in their front yard when a dark-colored Suzuki Samurai driven by a woman with blond hair pulled up, Weber said. A man in his mid-20s got out of the vehicle, approached Lopez, and asked, “Where are you from?”
When Lopez replied, “Nowhere,” the man pulled out a gun and fired, hitting Lopez several times in the upper body, Weber said. Lopez’s sister was unhurt. Family members took Lopez to the hospital, where he died.
Detectives think the killer is a gang member. Lopez had no gang affiliation, Weber said. Lopez’s family had moved into the residence about two months ago.
