Bergesonn Rejected for Schools Post

The reasons given by Democrats in Sacramento for their rejection of Sen. Marian Bergeson were her zealot religious views on the place of prayer and Bible reading in the public schools. This should send another message to the religious right that their religious agenda for this nation is unacceptable to the majority of Americans. These personal moral issues do not belong in today’s political parties. The fact that Gov. (Pete) Wilson nominated a woman for the education post should have appealed to the Democrats, but the Republican religious and moral demands are still too outrageous. I hope that the few realists in the Republican Party leadership will see the errors of their ways and return to the conservative and inclusive political issues that are important to all conservative Americans.
