Gas Co., Union Agree to Extend Negotiations: Hours before the midnight Friday expiration of their existing labor contract, Southern California Gas Co. and Local 132 of the Utility Workers Union of America agreed to continue operating under the old contract for two months while continuing talks toward a new agreement. The union, which represents 5,000 of the 9,000 gas company employees, also canceled its call for a one-day work stoppage next Thursday--the day on which Pacific Enterprises, parent company of the gas company, is scheduled to hold its annual shareholders meeting. Union officials are still asking employees to attend the meeting, however.
