Dale Hunter has personally apologized to New York Islander center Pierre Turgeon for injuring him in a highly publicized playoff incident earlier this week, according to the Washington Post.

“I just wished him the best, said I was sorry the incident happened and that I hoped for him to get back playing,” the Washington Capital forward said in a telephone interview with the Post.

Turgeon was injured when he was rammed by Hunter into the boards at the Nassau Coliseum after scoring a goal in the Islanders’ 5-3 series-clinching victory on Wednesday night. He suffered a separated right shoulder and will miss at least the Patrick Division final against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Hunter was suspended indefinitely by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
