Jewish Voters in Los Angeles

Share

In response to “Jewish Voters Will Not Be Forgotten,” by Marlene Adler Marks, Commentary, April 23:

Marks’ column once again talks of the Jewish electorate as a voting bloc that always goes along with the Westside liberals. If we are not in agreement with them, then we are “reeling from . . . sense of psychic dislocation,” she says. This is not only incorrect, it is an insult to our intelligence.

She states that Los Angeles mayoral candidate Richard Riordan is “personally anti-choice,” thereby trying to influence us that we shouldn’t vote for him if we disagree with that. I believe that New York Gov. Mario Cuomo is personally anti-choice, but he is acceptable to the Westside Jewish liberal group.

Abortion is not an issue in city government and shouldn’t even be brought into the race. Candidate Michael Woo talks about how he can work with President Clinton because he is a Democrat and Riordan is a Republican. I thought that this is a nonpartisan race.

Turning this city around needs a new direction, not one that is just business as usual. We Jews should vote for the candidate that we, individually, believe will do the best job.
