Seems like the going is not getting tougher for Rodney Peacher.

Peacher sped from pole to checkered flag Saturday night to record his second consecutive 40-lap Sportsman division main-event victory before a crowd of 3,642 at Saugus Speedway.

Peacher, a 17-year track veteran from North Hills, recorded his first main-event victory since 1986 two weeks ago in a bang-up race that left Peacher’s yellow Chevrolet Lumina in need of major body work.

This time, Peacher, who entered the evening fourth in the division’s points standings, opened a sizable lead early, then held off Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill and Sean Woodside of Saugus to cross the finish line victorious.

“My guys were telling me that Mintey could catch me going into the turns, but I could jump on him a little in the straightaways,” Peacher said. “I’m working harder and lady luck is with me.”

Peacher also won the evening’s trophy dash.

In the 25-lap Pro Stock oval main event, Gerrit Cromsigt climbed back atop the division’s points standings, taking the checkered flag of an exciting race ahead of Scott Dinger of Simi Valley and Sean Monroe of Los Angeles.

Cromsigt, who notched his division-high third main-event win, led for the first 19 laps before Cromsigt and Monroe closed in during a three-lap dash in which all three drivers at one time claimed the lead.

Cromsigt assumed the lead for good with three laps to go. The win moved Cromsigt from second place ahead of points leader Ed Horst of Reseda.

In the 20-lap Mini Stock main event, Garrett Yamada of North Hollywood moved into the lead with five laps to go and held on.

In other races, Glen Whitton of Lancaster won the eight-lap Pro Stock oval semi-main event to lead four drivers who advanced to the main.

Trophy dash winners included Peacher (Sportsman), Brian Kelley of Arleta (Pro Stock oval), Joey Bolio of Lake View Terrace (Pro Stock figure eight) and Rudy Sandoval of North Hollywood (Mini Stock).
