Walk Benefits Several Environmental Groups

Heal the Bay, American Oceans Campaign, TreePeople, Earth Communications Project, the Environmental Media Assn., Natural Resources Defense Council and Kids for Saving the Earth will share $500,000 (with additional pledges still coming in) raised at the April 17 EarthWalk 1993 benefit sponsored by the Permanent Charities Committee of the Entertainment Industries. Jayni and Chevy Chase, hosts of the walk that began at Universal Studios, were joined by Jay Leno, Ted Danson, Jack Palance and about 7,000 walkers.

The Betty Clooney Foundation for Persons With Brain Injury raised $425,000 at its eighth annual Singers’ Salute to the Songwriter April 20 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The benefit, co-hosted by Rosemary Clooney and her brother Nick, paid tribute to the music of Irving Berlin, Leslie Bricusse, Edward Eliscu and Neil Sedaka. Proceeds will provide affordable community-based vocational and recreational services for brain injury survivors.

Founders for Diabetic Research for City of Hope National Medical Center named Willie Gault of the Los Angeles Raiders the 1993 “Founder of Hope” at an April 18 gala at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. Ann Stag and Iris and Gene Rothstein received benefactor awards for their support. The gala netted $250,000 for diabetes research. Co-chairs were Dainnese Gault and Irwin Pomerantz.

AIDS Project Los Angeles received $6,000 raised April 20 at a poetry reading at Array, a clothing store in Santa Monica. Array management made a $25 donation in each guest’s name.
