IRVINE : User Fees for Parks, Buildings to Rise

Share

User fees at city parks and buildings will increase by 3.5%, the City Council has decided.

The action, approved at last Tuesday’s council meeting, means that the public will pay more to reserve and use city-owned camp sites, baseball diamonds, recreation centers and buildings. The new fees take effect Sept. 1.

The size of the fee increase was determined by measuring the consumer price index in December, 1992. The index at that time was 3.5%. The city has adjusted fees to the consumer price index since 1984.

More than 100 fees will rise as a result of the council action, from the cost of a toilet rental at Bommer Canyon Park to reservations at the Harvard Community Athletic Park.

Other facilities effected by the fee increase include the Irvine Fine Arts Center, Irvine Multi-Services Center, Northwood Community Park, Turtle Rock Community Park, University Community Park, Windrow Athletic Park, Alton Athletic Park, Deerfield Community Park and the Senior Center.

The increases range from $1 to $23, depending on the amount of the fee.

Officials said that the city will continue to waive reservation fees for many nonprofit organizations that use city parks and facilities for activities.
