The Rev. Jesse Jackson and 24 others were arrested Wednesday after noisy protesters blocked the lobby of the National Labor Relations Board for about an hour, authorities said.

They were charged with disorderly conduct and later released.

Jackson was with a group of about 150 to 200 protesters who were seeking a board more sympathetic to labor, along with legislation to accord more security to union workers.

“We will fight harder than ever for labor law reform, and for a fair and just National Labor Relations Board,” Jackson said.

The protest was organized by the Amalgamated Clothing & Textile Workers Union.

Demanding “justice now,” the demonstrators marched from a nearby park with signs and a flag-draped coffin they said represented the death of worker rights.

The labor activists were accompanied by Earley Mae Wallace, who was fired from her job at Earle Industries, a garment bag factory in Earle, Ark., reportedly for union organizing activities.

“She is a pivotal figure in the plight of working poor women in the South,” Jackson said.
