A summary of significant Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the past week.
CITY COUNCIL
* HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM: Approved a final agreement that allows the landmark Hollywood Palladium to remain open. Under the agreement, the nightspot will drop a $50-million lawsuit charging that earlier closing hours imposed by the city were an unlawful attempt to shut down the club. The city will permit the club to stay open until 2 a.m. on 20 nights each month.
* JOBS PROGRAM: Councilman Nate Holden is recommending that $100,000 be spent to continue for one year a program that hires mentally and economically disadvantaged adults to help maintain the area around metered parking spaces and remove graffiti from walls.
* APPOINTMENT: Approved the appointment of Karina Walters to the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission.
* SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Approved a proposal to waive $6,900 in city permit fees allowing 150 banners to be displayed announcing the California Special Olympics Summer Games, June 25-27, at UCLA.
* REWARD: Holden asked the council to approve a reward of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of Vera Muriel MacDonald, 79, whose body was found Dec. 27 in a vacant building in the Wilshire area..
* HOUSING LOAN: Approved a $700,200 loan to Hope-Net, Inc. to develop 17 affordable apartments at 1231-1237 West Blvd. in the Mid-Wilshire area.
HOW THEY VOTED
How Westside representatives voted on selected issues.
* CIVIL UNREST FUNDS: Approved accepting $6.2 million in state funding to be used to help the city recover from last spring’s riots. PASSED: 12-0.
VOTING YES: Marvin Braude, Ruth Galanter, John Ferraro, Holden, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Zev Yaroslavsky.
ABSENT: Michael Woo.
