World IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Retaliation Urged if Iraqi Plot Is Proved

Congressional leaders say the United States should retaliate if it’s proved that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s government was behind an assassination plot against former President George Bush. “We have the right to self-defense,” Sen. Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.) said. In Cleveland, White House spokeswoman Dee Dee Myers said that President Clinton is waiting for reports from the CIA and FBI before acting.
