Dana point singer-songwriter George Lawton has a chance to share a concert bill with Joni Mitchell, Peter, Paul & Mary, and others who will be playing at the Troubadours of Folk festival June 5 and 6 in Los Angeles.

Lawton has been chosen as one of 21 finalists for a live-performance competition May 22 at Highland Grounds coffeehouse in Hollywood. Lawton and his competitors will each play a 10-minute set, and a panel of judges from record companies and radio stations will pick two winners to play on the Troubadours bill. Finalists were chosen from more than 250 cassette entries.

Lawton previously has been heard on “Co-op,” a compilation CD by unsigned Orange County artists released several years ago. He also wrote and performed four songs for “Pizza Man,” a film directed by his brother, J.F. Lawton.
