Santa Monica : School Aide Held in Assault

Share

An 18-year-old noontime aide at John Adams Middle School was arrested late last week for the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old student, police said.

George Edward Moore, a Los Angeles resident, pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Tuesday to charges that he committed lewd and lascivious acts upon a child under the age of 14, Santa Monica Police Department spokesman Sgt. Gary Gallinot said.

The charges stem from an incident that allegedly took place Wednesday after school. The girl, whose name was not released, accused Moore of sexually assaulting her in an unused day-care center on campus. She reported the incident to school authorities Thursday. Moore was arrested when he arrived for work.

Moore is a Santa Monica College student who was enrolled in a work-study program in which he has worked part time in the college student bookstore and two hours a day as a lunchtime aide and hall supervisor at the nearby middle school campus.

Moore is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at Los Angeles County Jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
