WESTLAKE : Affordable-Housing Projects Lined Up

Seven of the city’s 15 affordable-housing developments scheduled to begin this year are in Westlake, the city’s most densely populated area.

The city Housing Department announced plans last week for the construction or rehabilitation of 1,131 units throughout the city, funded by $110 million in city, state, federal and private funds.

The projects will be built or rehabilitated by nonprofit housing developers for tenants with family incomes of less than $28,000 a year. Of those, 382 units, ranging from single rooms to three-bedroom apartments, are planned for the Westlake area:

* Crescent Village, 1709 W. 8th St., 134 units, developed by the Los Angeles Neighborhood Development Corp. and the Crescent Bay Co.

* Marina Apartments, 722-738 S. Coronado St., 64 units; and Mercedes Apartments, 727-737 S. Carondelet St., 47 units, both developed by the Pico Union Housing Corp. and Showplace Development Inc.

* Witmer City Lights, 319 Witmer St., 16 units; and Beverly City Lights, 107 S. Carondelet St., 40 units, both developed by Ajit Development & Investment Inc.

* Parker Hotel, 725 S. Witmer St., 32 units, rehabilitated by A Community of Friends.

* Park Place, 2500 W. 4th St., 49 units, developed by Los Angeles Community Design Center and Park Place Terrace Ltd. Partnership.
