Race-Baiting in Sacramento

Population growth is one of the root causes of poverty. Most of the problems California faces today are caused by this growth--poverty and unemployment among the most serious. I was flabbergasted to read an article which indicated that our economy is dependent on population growth and that this growth be workers from abroad (“Race-Baiting in Sacramento,” Commentary, May 4). This article, by Frank Acosta and Bong Hwan Kim, is self-serving and full of misstatements.

If we are to have any success solving our economic problems and protecting our environment, a zero population growth policy has to be established by our state and national governments. Immigration as a principal cause of population growth would have to be limited. To suggest that this policy, if adopted, would be racist flies in the face of reason. My hope is that the whole world will recognize the suicidal course of population growth.
