Buena Park Police Officer Kenneth Coovert put his life in danger to save guests at a burning motel, an act of bravery that earned him the Medal of Valor.

Officer Tyler Pinchot came to the aid of a woman who had attempted suicide by jumping from a freeway overpass.

Officer James M. Hayes, a member of the Police Department’s SWAT team, helped rescue two people severely injured in the crash of a private airplane attempting to land at Fullerton Airport.

For their outstanding dedication to duty, Pinchot and Hayes were selected as Officers of the Year for 1992.

All three officers were among members of the Buena Park Police Department recognized at a recent luncheon at Los Coyotes Country Club.

The annual Police Recognition Luncheon, attended by more than 250 people, was sponsored by the Buena Park Chamber of Commerce.

Police Chief Richard M. Tefank said the recognition “reinforces the fact that the vast majority of the community appreciates what they do--and it’s a way to say thank you.”

Also honored were Regina Rogers, acting property manager, who was named Non-Sworn Employee of the Year, and Robert Lewis, Reserve Officer of the Year.
