Qantas Links U.S. Bases to Airline Dispute: Qantas Airways has urged Australia's government to consider using the future of U.S. military bases in the country as a bargaining chip in a trade dispute over air services. The United States has threatened to cut three of Qantas' 10 Sydney-Los Angeles nonstop services in a dispute over which airlines should operate the route. John Ward, managing director of Australia's national airline, said Canberra should consider using the military bases in negotiations to get the United States to back down. The government, however, said the bases were not under discussion.
