LOS ANGELES COUNTY : CHP Keeps Contract to Service Call Boxes

Share

The California Highway Patrol won a contract to continue providing answering services for Los Angeles County’s call box system after agreeing to change the way the calls are handled.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority renewed the contract, which is not to exceed $8.5 million over three years, after the CHP agreed to answer calls only from call-box users. Currently, CHP operators also answer calls placed by other law enforcement agencies and public information calls.

“The public will receive better service because there will be more phone operators and upgraded telephone equipment,” said City Councilman and MTA Chairman Richard Alatorre. “Phone-ring time and hold time also will be reduced so metro call box callers will get faster attention.”
