VENICE : Pit Bull Slain by Police After Attack on Bicyclist

Share

Animal control officials Thursday were investigating an attack in which a pit bull in Venice wounded a bicyclist and charged police, who shot and killed the dog.

Lucio Montes, 46, was treated and released from Washington Medical Center after suffering bites to an arm and leg in the Wednesday night attack. Police said he was chased by three pit bull dogs that apparently escaped from a yard in the Oakwood neighborhood. The owner was not home and the attack appeared accidental, said Lt. Wallace Graves, a detective supervisor in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division.

No charges had been filed against the owner, whose name was not released. The other two dogs were taken to a West Los Angeles pound.
