BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Strawberry Is Able to Swing a Bat
There is no timetable for Darryl Strawberry’s return to the lineup, but he swung a bat for the first time since going on the disabled list May 13 because of stiffness in his lower back.
“I feel like my old self again,” Strawberry said. “I’ll keep swinging and working and making progress, but I don’t want to place a time on it now. I just want to keep going in the right direction.”
Fred Claire, Dodger executive vice president, said Strawberry has stepped up the intensity of his rehabilitation program.
“He was working hard before, but I think since he is seeing results he’s become more of a believer,” Claire said. “I think he has realized that the results take effort, it’s not something you do for 10 innings and then it’s over.”

Outgoing National League President Bill White attended the Dodger game Saturday night. Tommy Hawkins, Dodger vice president of communications, has been rumored to be in the running as a replacement for White. But Hawkins said he hasn’t heard anything about the job. “And I have been too busy to worry about it,” Hawkins said.
