Flyers Hire Simpson to Replace Dineen as Coach

From Staff and Wire Reports

The Philadelphia Flyers hired Terry Simpson to replace Bill Dineen as coach on Monday. Dineen will remain with the club as a scout.

Simpson, 49, was an assistant with the Winnipeg Jets the past three seasons and is a former coach of the New York Islanders.

Dineen, 60, had coached the Flyers since December of 1991.

Simpson succeeded Al Arbour as coach of the Islanders in 1986-87. Simpson's team made it to the Patrick Division finals in his first season, but lost to the Flyers in seven games.
