Kevin Cogan, the slowest qualifier with a speed of 217.230 m.p.h., earned the Slo Poke award, worth $10,000, from the D.L. Clark Co. And the manufacturer of the Slo Poke carmel sucker will present Cogan with a check for $1 million if he also wins the race. . . . The spread between the fastest and slowest qualifiers in this year's race is only 6.737 m.p.h., the closest spread since 1970, when it was 4.848.
