Region : 9 Schools Receive Highest Academic Award From State
Nine Southeast-area elementary schools have received the state’s highest academic achievement award for student performance or exemplary educational programs.
The institutions were among 206 California elementary schools to receive the California Distinguished School Award. It is the first year since 1989, when the state Department of Education halted the program because of budget cuts, that schools have been honored.
Southeast-area schools receiving the award last week were Woodruff in the Bellflower Unified School District; Gauldin and Ward schools, Downey; Kettering and Cleveland schools, Long Beach; Garfield in Montebello; Glazier and Gardenhill schools, Norwalk-La Mirada School District; and Los Cerritos in Paramount.
