In an effort to build community spirit among North Hills residents, a city councilman has joined with police and a community group to present the first North Hills Multi-Cultural Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

The event, which will be held at Sepulveda Middle School, 15330 Plummer St., will feature a variety of entertainment, including music and dance, as well as an information fair. The event is being sponsored by City Councilman Ernani Bernardi, the North Hills Community Coordinating Council and the Devonshire Division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Residents of Orion, Langdon and Columbus avenues are especially invited to participate in the festivities, organizers said.

Highlights of the day will be folk dancing by the Mascote Dance Troupe and a concert by singer Bobby Rodriguez. Music and storytellers will be featured for children.

The exhibitors’ area will feature information on health, safety and housing provided by El Proyecto del Barrio, the federal Housing and Urban Development program and the city Department of Building and Safety.

The Los Angeles Fire Department’s antique Steamer and Band Wagon and “Casey,” the Los Angeles Police Department’s talking patrol car, will also be on display.

A free shuttle service will offer transportation to the festival site from Langdon Avenue Elementary School and the corner of Parthenia Place and Columbus Avenue.
