A summary of selected City Hall actions affecting Central Los Angeles in the past week.

CITY COUNCIL

* POST OFFICE: Requested congressional members from the Los Angeles area use their influence with the U.S. Postal Service to push for rebuilding the Greenmead Station Post Office in Watts, that was burned down during last year’s riots.

* REWARD: Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores recommended that the council offer a $25,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the killer of Ramiro Inocencio, 57, who was shot May 21 while on duty as a security guard at the Watts Towers.

* POLICE CENTER: Approved spending $3,000 from Councilman Nate Holden’s public services fund for the Koreatown Police Community Center. The center is a volunteer organization that assists the Wilshire substation. Its services include providing interpreters for residents needing help from the police.

* TOM BRADLEY CENTER: Approved the closure of Century Boulevard between Central and Wilmington avenues from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 12 for a dedication ceremony of the New Westminster Tom Bradley Youth Center.

* SIDEWALKS: Approved a proposal to preserve the width of the sidewalks on Wilshire Boulevard between Hoover Street and Saint Andrews Place during the completion of the Metro Rail Project.

* HISTORIC DESIGNATION: Approved a proposal to include the Emanuel Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church at 4254-4260 3rd Ave. as one of the city’s Historical-Cultural Monuments. The one-story church was built in 1937.

* MID-TOWN SHOPPING CENTER: Approved a plan that includes the Mid-Town Shopping Center at Pico and San Vincente boulevards in the city’s economic revitalization program. The center is in an area that was damaged in last year’s riots.

* VENICE BEACH: Approved a proposal to have nine traffic-control officers at Venice Beach, thereby freeing police officers for law-enforcement work. Additional police, including gang detail officers, will work Sundays and holidays from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. through Sept. 26 on the boardwalk.

* AIDS: Approved a proposal allowing the city to spend $50,000 to provide education about AIDS and HIV to city employees. The city’s AIDS policy requires that all city employees receive such education and training. Passed: 13-0. Voting yes: Richard Alatorre, Flores, Mike Hernandez, Holden, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Rita Walters.
