VENTURA : Attorney’s License Suspended Over Dues

Share

A Ventura attorney who has pleaded guilty to practicing law while he was not authorized to do so has had his license suspended again.

Kenneth George Makature, 55, was placed on suspension last month by the California Bar Assn. pending final disposition of disciplinary proceedings against him, it was announced Friday.

Makature pleaded guilty in March to three counts of representing clients in court in September while his license was under suspension for failing to pay the annual bar dues of $478.

His license was reinstated Oct. 14.

The case was filed as a felony, but Superior Court Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr. has the option of reducing the conviction to a misdemeanor when he sentences Makature on June 14. Deputy Dist. Atty. Matthew J. Hardy said final action by the California State Bar against Makature probably will depend on whether the conviction remains a felony.

According to bar records, Makature was licensed to practice law in California in 1964. The suspension in August marked the fourth time he was suspended for non-payment of membership dues, records show.
